As we begin 2018 and I begin my Presidency let me begin by wishing you and your families a very Happy and Healthy New Year. I hope you all had a great Christmas but now the holidays are over and we are all ready to get back to work again. We have another busy year ahead.
We had a great gathering for our December meeting and Christmas party. The food was delicious and a great night was had by all. Thank you to everyone who contributed to our annual Christmas collection which was donated to Lisa Cullen and her newborn baby boy Kayden.
Please join us for our January meeting on Thurday January 18th, 2018 at The Heritage Bar and Restaurant, McLean Avenue, Yonkers at 7.30 PM. We always invite new members, so please if you know somebody bring them along.
Payment of dues for 2018 is being accepted and can be paid at this meeting or by mailing to the Financial Secretary at the P.O. Box address above. Dues are $20.00 per person or $30.00 per couple.
Mark your calendar – Our Annual St .Patrick's Day Dance will take place on Friday March 9th, 2018 at Antun's, 96-43 Springfield Blvd, Queens Village, NY. Full details will be mailed out next week.
Guest of Honor will be Pat Gallagher. Pat was born and raised in Knockacullion, Aughnasheelin. The eldest of two sons to Packie and Lucy (nee Dolan). Pat lives in Kent, England where his very successful business empire has its headquarters. Pat is a frequent visitor to Ballinamore where he has a holiday home.
Our Distinguised Service Recipient will be Meg McKeon Baker, who is our current Treasurer. Meg's parents the late Barney and Olive were two highly respected and very proud Leitrim people, both were long serving members of the Society.

The United Irish Counties Association of New York 114th Annual Dinner Dance will take place on Friday January 26th, 2018 at Antun's, 96-43 Springfield Blvd, Queens Village, NY. Cocktail hour begins at 7pm followed by dinner and dancing. Joe McManus, our former President will be receiving the Rose Cosgrove Award for Distinguised Service. We are appealing for help for a young Leitrim woman named Lisa Cullen. A Benefit will be held for her and her baby boy Kayden on Sunday February 11th, 2018 at Rory Dolan's from 2-9 PM. A flyer is enclosed with all the information. This is a very worthy event and anything you can do to support it will be greatly appreciated.
The Society would like to congratulate our former Guest of Honor, Denis Mulcahy on receiving the Presidential Distinguished Service Award for People Abroad. A truly well deserved recognition for a tireless worker.

Condolences to Eileen Beglan and family on the untimely death of her sister Margaret Sweeney (Ballinamore) on Christmas Eve, to Michael O'Rourke on the death of his sister, Theresa O'Rourke, to Jimmy Gildea who's mother Cissy Gildea died recently, and to the family of Jackie Gallagher. May they all rest in peace. Please remember our sick members, Lisa Cullen, Kay McHale, Joe Cornyn, Kathleen Regan and Teresa Reynolds, We hope they all have a speedy recovery.
