As we start a new year and I begin my second year as President let me wish you and your families a very Happy and Healthy New Year. Thank you for all your wonderful support in 2018. I hope you all had a great Christmas but now it's time to get back to work again. We have another busy year ahead.
We had a great gathering for our December meeting and Christmas party. The food was delicious and a great night was had by all. Thank you to everyone who contributed so generously to our annual Christmas collection which was donated to The Aisling Center, McLean Avenue, Yonkers, N.Y.
Please join us for our January meeting on Thurday January 17th , 2019 at The Heritage Bar and Restaurant , McLean Avenue, Yonkers at 7.30 PM. We always invite new members, so please if you know somebody bring them along.
Payment of dues for 2019 is being accepted and can be paid at this meeting or by mailing to the Financial Secretary at the P.O. Box address above. Dues are $20.00 per person or $30.00 per couple.
Mark your calendar – Our Annual St. Patrick's Day Dinner Dance will take place on Friday March 8 th , 2019 at Antun's, 96-43 Springfield Blvd, Queens Village, NY . Guest of Honor is Paul Quinn . Paul was born and raised in Drumshanbo South, Gortletteragh, Co. Leitrim. He is the third oldest of nine children born to Molly Quinn (nee Rowley) and the late Paul Quinn. Paul lives in Manalapan, New Jersey where he owns a very successful plumbing business, Paul Quinn Plumbing & Heating Inc. He is married to Barbara (nee Mirabella) and they have three children, Christopher, Lisa and Jessica. Paul is very proud of his Irish heritage and is a frequent visitor back to his native Leitrim. We are delighted to have Paul as our Guest of Honor.
Our Distinguised Service Recipient is Anna Mulvey-Buggy , who is our Corresponding Secretary . Anna was born and raised in Tullynapurtlin, Ballinaglera, Dowra, Co. Leitrim, the oldest of four children born to the the late Jack Mulvey and the late Mary Mulvey (nee Dolan) from Drumkeerin. Anna has three brothers, Tony, Seamus and Jackie. Anna came to New York in 1992 and works for the New York Health and Hospitals as Assistant Director of Patient Scheduling in Elmhurst Hospital, Elmhurst, New York. Anna has been a member of the Leitrim Society for 20 years. She is very active in all Society events and fundraisers.
She is married to Joe Buggy and they reside in Maspeth, New York. We congratulate Anna on being this year's honoree. Please see enclosed Dance Letter and Journal Contract.
The United Irish Counties Association of New York 115 th Annual Dinner Dance will take place on Friday January 25 th , 2019 at Antun's, 96-43 Springfield Blvd, Queens Village, NY . Cocktail hour begins at 7:30 PM followed by dinner and dancing. Gael of the Year is Patrick McGowan and Mike Prunty will be receiving the Rose Cosgrove Award for Distinguised Service . NY GAA Scor on Broadway is coming up on Friday February 1 st 2019 at 7PM, Symphony Space Theatre, 2537 Broadway & 95 th Street . Tickets are $12.00. This is a great night of Ceili, Set Dancing, Solo Singing, Ballad Group, Recitation, Instrumental and Drama. Your prayers are requested for our sick members namely Damien Murray, Sean Maguire, Eddie Verheyen, Eugene Wynne (in Rehab), Lisa Cullen, Maureen Halligan and Breege Muirhead (sisters of Donal O'Connell) and Gerry Finneran Glenfarne (father of Fiona Smyth) who recently had Hip Surgery. We wish them a speedy recovery.
Please remember our deceased members especially Elizabeth McWeeney , Carrick-on-Shannon (mother of Joe McWeeney and sister of Helen Boland), Brendan Mulvey, Ballinaglera (brother of John, County Board) Jerry Cullen, Nancy O'Donnell (Corry, Dowra), sister of the late Teasie Cornyn and Aidan Mulvey (cousin of Anna Mulvey) who was buried in Derry on Saturday.. May they all rest in peace.
